Monday April 2, 2012

We enjoyed a great breakfast at the Sweet Magnolia and got underway for Fort Walton Beach at 9:30 am. We travelled along Hwy 98 which followed the shoreline past St George Sound. When we arrived in Apalachicola FL, it was about noon so we decided to stretch our legs and have a walk around this quaint historic town. It used to be a sponge centre but currently has a shrimp boat fleet at the waterfront.

The downtown is quaint with several interesting shops and galleries in the old buildings.

We travelled along the coast road past St. Vincent Sound and had a brief visit to St Joseph Peninsula State Park, a 15 mile sand peninsula which forms St Joseph Bay. A beautiful sand shell-free beach on the west side and great bay views on the east side.

From here we travelled past Panama City, Laguna Beach, Grayton Beach and Destin arriving at our destination of Aunt Martha's B&B in Fort Walton Beach. A fantastic 12,000 sq ft waterfront home and we were the only guests!

It was situated on the Intracoastal Waterway. This is the view from our dock.

For supper, we went to the Black Pearl Restaurant which featured wood fired seafood. Chris really enjoyed her grilled Amberjack.

We missed sunset but managed to get down to the beach to catch the last of the fading light.
