Thursday April 5, 2012

We woke up this morning to the sounds of distant thunder and surf. Looks like the storms that hit Texas are here for today.

By late morning, the sky had cleared and we struck out on a beach walk, heading west past the endless stretch of high rise condos. The beaches were packed with families and spring break students. We were glad we were at the end of the beach next to the park and in a smaller building as it is not nearly as crowded.

We walked for about 10 km in the soft white sand. Saw some interesting things ....

A really cool sand castle ....

A wheelchair accessible lifeguard station ....

We returned to our stretch of beach to sit and read until late afternoon when we noticed another storm approaching from the north. Here the leading edge of the storm approaches an offshore oil platform ....

We retreated to the balcony and watched a spectacular sky as the storm split and passed on both sides of us at sunset.
